Non Instructional School District Vote Passed
March 6, 2024
A MESSAGE FROM THE NEW SUFFOLK COMMON SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES:
The New Suffolk Community passed a resolution yesterday to move to a non instructional school district. The vote represented a record turn out and resulted in a 83-14 margin in favor. After months of working with the community and neighboring schools districts the support was overwhelmingly in favor of the plan.
Beginning in the 24-25 school year The New Suffolk School District will tuition all of its students to Southold. New Suffolk will function as a non-instructional school district which will continue to advocate for and support the students of the community.
We thank everyone for attending meetings and becoming informed to help us offer the best education for our students.

Letter from NS School Board re: District of Attendance for NS Students decided.
February 21, 2024
To Our Community:
The New Suffolk Common School is pleased to inform our community that after much consideration, the Board of Trustees has chosen to select Southold Union Free Schools as the District of attendance for New Suffolk students. The Board of Trustees will act to formalize this selection at its next regularly scheduled board of education meeting on March 12, 2024. Should the community vote in favor of the move to a non-instruction district on March 5th the selection will apply to our elementary students as well as secondary.
We thank all parents, students, community members and any other stakeholders who have provided input for the Board’s consideration as it relates to a selection of the District of attendance. Given the prior relationship with Southold, and in consideration of Southold’s academic and athletic offerings, we believe it to be in the best interests of District students to continue our agreement with Southold to educate New Suffolk students.
We are working with Southold to provide our parents a few dates/times where they will be able to tour the school facilities, and will communicate those to all as soon as possible.
We encourage the community to attend the special meeting on February 27th, 7pm, at the New Suffolk School. This meeting will solely focus on the upcoming vote on March 5th regarding the Non-Instructional School District. If you cannot attend in person, the Google Meet access information can be found below and on the website, www.newsuffolkschool.com.

As a reminder to parents within the District, we will need to provide Southold with definitive attendance numbers for the 2024/2025 school year. We ask that you please reach out and inform us of your household enrollment within the district by April 1st. You can email this information to our Superintendent Joe Vasile-Cozzo (jvas@newsuffolkschool.com).
Please do pass this email along to other members of the community, we will be posting the announcement on our website, and will be reaching out to the Civic Association to help us get the word out.
Sincerely,
The Board of Trustees
Lisa Zissel, Brooke Dailey and Deborah Carroll

SIDEWALK REPAIR UPDATE
In early 2023, the NSCA had contacted Dan Goodwin, Superintendent of Highways for Southold Town, regarding the extremely poor state of the sidewalks in New Suffolk. Dan Goodwin agreed that this project was needed. He was actively working on achieving funding for the repairs, however the project was initially unlikely to be done this year. Thankfully we found out recently that he was successful!
As some of you may have seen, the town has already started repairs on the sidewalks.
Dan emailed us recently and explained the time frame for the repairs: " For this year we will be going [New Suffolk Rd] from King St to Main St then along Main Street to 1st Street. Construction on the replacement section should be completed in about a week and a half depending on weather. We will be doing some in house repairs in front of the school either this fall or in the spring. That section is very complicated due to the retaining wall and its proximity to the school property line as well as a few trees which would need to be removed. This approach will be far less disruptive to the area. "
Please be aware of the workers and traffic pattern changes in town from this project, as well as the PSEGLI pole repair work in both New Suffolk and Cutchogue.
We hope you are all enjoying the start of Fall in New Suffolk.
